Replacement 07.12 to London Euston

Replacement 07.12 to London Euston

The 07.12 Virgin Trains service to London Euston was extremely popular with passengers and it is much missed. NRUG campaigned to get this service in the first place and have been very disappointed to see this successful service withdrawn. A significant effort is being made to get a replacement service providing a journey time of 50 minutes or less and arriving at London Euston before 08.00.

Birmingham services

Birmingham services

Twice hourly services to Birmingham have been restored, but at uneven clock-face departures that leave long gaps each hour. NRUG campaign to get these back to an even timing through the day.

Trent Valley services (plus connections)

Trent Valley services (Plus connections)

The new service to Crewe via the Trent Valley Line and Stoke on Trent should provide excellent connectional opportunities for customers travelling to/from Northampton!  But Trent Valley line connections and connections to the north at Rugby often do not make sensible and convenient timings and do not live up to the promise of the earlier draft timetable. NRUG continue to campaign for better access to these routes.

Upgrade the loop line

Currently service provision to Northampton is made less desirable by 75mph running on the “loop” line. Getting an early upgrade to higher speed would reduce time penalties for routing express services via Northampton and increase the opportunities for franchisees to service the town to and from London and Birmingham.

Earlier successes for NRUG

- Lifts at Northampton Station

- The original introduction of the 2 morning Virgin Pendolino services

- Maintaining fast track access to London in the face of proposals to pass all fast track access on the West Coast Main Line to 140 mph long distance services. Failure to achieve this would have left Northampton with a 1 hour 20 minutes typical journey time to London.
